ILT Poetry Task 3

Poetry is a piece of writing expressing your emotions (feelings), describing things around us that are part of us humans and life. People write poetry because maybe it helps us of better understanding of writing and also it expresses ourselves of what we are writing about.

The activities we did was:

Task 1: Terminology(Collaborative) =  We were given a list of words and we had to search what the following words meant, then as a group we had to make sure that we understood each meaning of the word and we had use an app to create a video/slideshow explaining each meaning of the word

Task 2: Poetry Writing(Collaborative) = As a group, we had to find out the structure and the rules of each kind of poem, then as a group we had to choose a name. E.g. After Dark, Mysterious Dreams etc. We were given A4 white paper so that we could mind-map an brainstorm on our poem. Using our page, to inspire us we wrote 3 different poems about the the same theme.

Task 3: BOP (Black Out Poetry)(Individual) = We were given a page out of a old book and we had to use a black permanent marker to create our own black out poetry, but before doing it we had to first think about it or first read the page and see if we were going to be happy with it or not. After we were done we had to take a photo and submit it to an English folder.

Task 4: Poetry Slam (Individual)= As a group we had to choose a topic of a poem and we had to use a free verse to write a poem of 10-20 lines, we had to practice the poem with our group and prepare to present in front of the audience

Task 5: Analysing Poem(Individual) = We were given for links (for the poems) and we had to listen to each one of the poems and choose one of them, then we had to create a Google Doc answering questions about the poem that we have chosen to do.

Task 6: Imagery(Individual) = We had to chose one of the following poems and we had to listen to the poem and we had to draw a picture based on the poem that we chose. We had to have thoughts on what the poem was about, then in brief and in paragraph we had to explain why we chose to do this poem.

Task 7: Self-Reflections(Individual) = For this last task we were given questions based on our own opinions about this activity, but these question were needed to be done in a Google Doc.

My personal best would probably be the Black Out Poetry because while we were doing our Terminology and Poetry Slam was kind of stressing me out because our group was not really organized, so by doing the Black Out Poetry , it revealed a lot of  frustration. My personal worst would probably be Poetry Writing, because some of the words were kind of difficult to understand and to look up for the meaning was very difficult.

My most challenging would be the Terminology because we had to divide each part so our group members could say and it was also kind of difficult because we had to memorize our parts and record us saying the meanings. Was very challenging but at least we managed to do all of them with great team work, effort and accepting the mistakes and giving more than second chances.

The new words i learned from the vocabulary was:

  • Onomatopoeia
  • Consonance
  • Assonance
  • Pun
  • Analogy

What I learned about myself was that I was capable of writing a poem myself, but still needing a few pointers or guides. To be honest I never really knew I was good at Acrostic poem and Colour, i would like to learn more about it. I have also learned that to work in a group is not as easy because some people in your group might have different ideas that they would like to share and some opinions that we might disagree or agree on.

Here are some of my favorite poems i would like to share:

"Skin isn't a paper; don't cut it
  Face isn't a mask don't cover
